I’m having a really hard time, because there’s little demand for my skills. Almost all employers demand web development skills, which I haven’t got. I did ask to see the disability employment advisor, but again, I don’t think he has much understanding of autism and Asperger’s syndrome, the support which I need, or indeed any idea of the training and support schemes on offer. What support I would need would be a dedicated counsellor who takes an especial interest in a caseload of clients including myself. I am in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance but it’s not entirely satisfactory or rather it’s not in the least bit satisfactory, because I get treated as a person who has not got Asperger’s syndrome. I don‘t get the support which I need to help me choose my career and to find an appropriate job. I’ll be better off on Employment and Support Allowance which would entitle me to receive the appropriate support from the Nottingham County Council and other bodies to find the appropriate employment. Everything is geared towards the lower end of the market, not only is there little or no support for people with Asperger’s syndrome, there is little or no support for professionals full stop.
